Nestor Language Academy, in the South Bay Union School District, is an award winning K-8 Spanish Dual Immersion Charter School. Nestor has been recognized as a model program and is the oldest two-way immersion 90:10 program in the county.
Nestor is also among the highest scoring middle schools in the nation. In recent CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) testing results, Nestor’s middle school students exceeded standards in both English language arts and mathematics. 74% of seventh grade students met or exceeded performance expectations and 80% of eighth grade students met or exceeded expectations.
Nestor has been recognized with several honors and awards including the Seal of Academic Excellence from the California Association of Bilingual Education, selected as a 2016 Honor Roll School by the Educational Results Partnership and the Campaign for Business Education and Excellence, and named a School of Distinction by the Association of Two-way and Dual Language Education.
The campus offers a positive, college bound learning environment with a rigorous instructional program that prepares students for high school and college. Students may also select electives and enrichment opportunities including business, art, technology, and debate. Through community service projects, Nestor ensures that students have a global perspective on issues, develop leadership skills, and experience personal growth.
Nestor’s program helps students to develop bilingualism and biliteracy, fluency and literacy in both English and Spanish, academic excellence, positive cross-cultural attitudes and self-esteem, and technology skills. Studies show that bilingualism improves academic achievement, enhances communication skills, expands multicultural views, and provides future career options.
