Schneider Electric, at Hannover Messe 2018, Announces EcoStruxure Machine Advisor and Partnership with Staubli

EcoStruxure Machine Advisor Helps to Maximize the Value of Data for OEMs

Schneider Electric, a global provider for digital transformation of energy management and automation, announced its EcoStruxure Machine Advisor, a platform that allows OEMs and operators to Track, Monitor and Fix machines remotely.

Amid the rapid digitization of manufacturing, machine builders (OEMs) need to provide better services to their customers’ to improve the agility and market responsiveness of their machines.  These OEMs seek real-time operational awareness of their machines to provide their customers with a technological advantage in an ultra-competitive global environment.  These OEMs need solutions that will improve the connectivity of their machines, providing this real-time operational awareness and access to their machines in order to better optimize their operational efficiency while developing new opportunities in, for example, their services business.  These benefits need to be passed on to operators while still guaranteeing machine safety and data security.

EcoStruxure Machine Advisor can help to maximize the value of data

EcoStruxure Machine Advisor provides a connected framework for more reliable machine operation through three functionalities:

  • Track: OEMs can better visualize the location of their machines, with real-time access to documentation and history, such as bill of materials, manuals, maintenance logs and task management schedules.
  • Monitor: The cloud-based software allows OEMs to collect and visualize machine data in real time, providing an analysis of, for example, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), widgets for performance against key KPIs and other trends, and dashboards to monitor machine availability and output quality.
  • Fix: A service enabled by a mobile app to help facilitate maintenance and operations with contextual information, supplementing step-by-step procedures and remote expertise by leveraging augmented reality. Fix also provides remote access to the engineering software in the cloud, which can enable service technicians to use “Software-as-a-Service” to have the correct version and libraries on hand.

While these functionalities allow OEMs to help improve customer satisfaction and innovate with new service offerings, EcoStruxure Machine Advisor helps to also provide benefits to operators by leveraging the EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor app. EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor helps to put real-time information when and where it is needed. The custom application helps to improve operational efficiency with augmented reality, enabling operators to superimpose the current data and virtual objects onto a cabinet, machine, or plant.

Stäubli and Schneider Electric Sign Partnership to More Easily Integrate Robotics Solutions into EcoStruxure Smart Machines

Stäubli Robotics and Schneider Electric announced the further development of their partnership by signing a long-term agreement to integrate customized Stäubli TS series four axis SCARA robots into Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Machine architecture and platform.

EcoStruxure is Schneider Electric’s IoT-enabled system architecture and platform that leverages connected products, edge control, apps, analytics, and services with domain expertise in machinery.  EcoStruxure helps to enable smart machines by combining products and software packages into automation solutions for OEM machine builders.

Stäubli Robotics develops specialized robotics solutions for multiple industries, including electronics, medical, automotive, food, plastics processes, mechanics, and painting.  It offers a line of four axis TP fast pickers and TS SCARA robots, as well as six axis TX and TX2 collaborative robots. Stäubli robots are focused on applications requiring higher performance, such as speed, precision, and reliability.

Schneider Electric is integrating a customized version of the Stäubli TS series four axis SCARA robots into its solution portfolio.  Labeled Lexium STS series, these robots will now be integrated into the architecture of Schneider Electric´s PacDrive motion control solution.

There are two main benefits this integration brings to their respective customers.  First, programming robot movements becomes simpler by using a common programming language standardized on IEC 61131-3, limiting the time required for familiarization with special robotics programming languages. Second, are the benefits of omitting proprietary robot control from the hardware installation of an automation system, which can reduce the number of interfaces, the wiring effort and the installation space required.
