David Moore & Associates, a professional, accredited auction company with 31 years of auction experience, has recently announced plans to auction off an extensive private antique clock collection owned by Irene and George Hartwick of Goderich, ON. Approximately 350 lots of antique clocks, parts, tools, merchandise and books will be sold by online auction at www.rapid-sell.ca from April 5 -12, 2015.
Irene Hartwick, a well-known Antiquarian Horologist, and her husband George have been collecting and repairing clocks for over 40 years and are the proud owners of the Hartwick Collection, a unique mixture of fine antique clocks that were chosen for their beauty, originality and eccentric value. The collection includes around 200 clocks in total, 100 of which are in prestine condition. The elegant collection includes longcases from several countries around the world, Viennese wall regulators, and many fine English, Dutch, Austrian and French Clocks. The collection also consists of antique musical clocks, cathedral clocks, antique bronze figural clocks and Austrian Vienna regulators. Many include the ultimate in decorative metal work, silver and gilt cased clocks, the beauty of natural figured woods and complicated quality movements.
Irene first developed a love for clocks when her father in-law needed help fixing his broken Eli Terry & Son wooden works shelf clock. Not knowing anything about clocks, they repaired the clock together. It was then that Irene realized her love for collecting and repairing clocks, especially unique antique pieces. She attended Fanshawe College in London, taking basic clock repair classes, with George eventually joining alongside. Both are 40 year members of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and have built an exquisite collection of antique clocks dating back centuries from around the world.
After a four decade journey, the Hartwicks have decided to auction off their collection. As quoted in an article for The Goderich Signal Star by Steph Smith, George Hartwick said, "I'm 84 years old and we're both still in good health. It's just something we have to do it some point." He added, "Do we want to? Not really, but our kids have expressed that they don't have an interest in them or want to look after disposing of them after we're gone. Might as well downsize while you can still enjoy it, rather than having to do it when you can't."
The online auction starts on April 5, 2015 and will include the Hartwick's impressive collection of clocks, books, tools, clock parts, and merchandise. Bidding is open to all, and Rapid-Sell.ca owner David Moore expects to see buyers from across North America, if not worldwide. A preview, where the collection can be seen, is scheduled for April 4, 2015 and April 6, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 33749 Magnolia Crescent, Goderich, ON.
