Senior citizens often need help carrying out daily tasks or overcoming occasional challenges in their lives. With the help of the new CuraGuard app, creator Lars Ole Mathisen hopes to enable the elderly to stay longer in their own homes and receive a helping hand from friends, neighbors and family. CuraGuard enables seniors to live an independent life with support from their family and friends.
Derived from the Latin word cura which means "care," CuraGuard is designed to allow neighbors, friends and family to be able to make a difference in the lives of their older loved ones. The service utilizes Facebook to allow senior citizens to post tasks for which they need help, such as transportation to doctor's appointments, errands to the grocery store or other daily tasks. Helpers are notified via the app that is connected to the Facebook service.
Seniors may find that several people offer to help with any given tasks, in which case they can choose from a list of respondents. The job can be paid for through Facebook pay and make secure payments online. Helpers will also collect points in an ongoing game that also motivates them to get involved.
