Marc Hurwitz is the founder of Crossroads Investigations, a private investigation agency that operates nationally and in South Florida, to include Miami and Broward counties. Mr. Hurwitz attended the State University of New York at Buffalo for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, and The George Washington University for his Master of Arts degree in National Security Policy. Mr. Hurwitz began his government service with Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and continued onto the U.S. Department of State’s Human Rights Bureau. He then worked in the White House for three years, where he served as the aide to the Deputy National Security Advisor. Mr. Hurwitz went on to become a counter-terrorism officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and later worked for the government in multiple overseas posts, earning several commendations for meritorious service.
In 2008, Mr. Hurwitz opened Crossroads Investigations to sub-contract for retired CIA Chiefs of Stations with large corporate due diligence contracts and train elite military units how to operate independently in hostile environments. Crossroads has since expanded into a full-service Private Investigation Agency and Due Diligence firm. Today, Crossroads Investigations is staffed by former federal intelligence officers as well as retired law enforcement officers. They focus on asset searches, background reports, skip traces, due diligence, surveillance, and finding other hard-to-find information.
Mr. Hurwitz takes pride in having an active role in his community. He is a Director of the Highland Lakes/Skylake Home Owner’s Association. Mr. Hurwitz is a Chairman’s Roundtable Trustee of the Aventura Marketing Council and has been named the Aventura Marketing Council Chair of the North Dade Justice Center’s Annual Law Day in 2013 and 2014. Also in early 2013, the Florida State Bar appointed Mr. Hurwitz to a three-year term on the 11th Circuit Grievance Committee. In mid-2013, he was named Chairman of the Aventura Marketing Council’s Law Committee. Mr. Hurwitz is a founding member of the South Florida Alumni Chapter for the State University of New York at Buffalo, and he is also active in the South Florida George Washington University alumni chapter. He has previously taken leadership roles with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Anti-Defamation League. Mr. Hurwitz and his wife are active volunteers with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Florida.
When asked what sparked Mr. Hurwitz’s interest in becoming a Private Investigator he stated, “My government career was in intelligence, and when I went out on my own I started helping with due diligence projects for my former bosses, who had become consultants for Fortune 500 companies. I was introduced to new sources for information, and learned how to cater my work for corporate clients. It was only after I developed these tools did I start applying them in a more traditional sense as a private investigator. These days, I’m proud to offer the full-range of private investigation services to our clients - it’s very fulfilling to help people find hard-to-find information. Many consider South Florida to be our country’s fraud capital, and it’s a great feeling to assist individuals and companies who have been taken advantage of.”
Hurwitz’s advice for anyone wanting to become a private investigator is that a tough part of the job is running a business. From understanding book-keeping, to insurance, to marketing, there is a lot more to being a private investigator than street work. In addition to the business side, it takes relationships with one’s sources, clients, and referral providers to maintain a healthy private investigation practice.
