September 26, 2014. The Friday night was the night of judgement for the most able and eligible body builders who have arrived at the venue with lot of hope in their hearts to win the title of Mr. Olympia. Since Jay Cutler’s victory in 2011 there had always been a tie between Kai Greene and Phil Heath. The victory became obvious between the two bodybuilders at the end of the evening as there was no other contender to match them.
Let us peek into the top 6 contestants.
Top 1 - Phil Heath
As usual Phil was as aesthetic and graceful as usual with all the muscles in place. But for some reason there was something missing this year. His abs looked less defined and highlighted when he posed. The razor- thin difference between the runner-up seemed enough to push him to the first position.
Top 2 - Kai Greene
No one could ever beat Kai in conditioning. It was his up to date conditioned body that brought him up to the 2nd level. In fact he easily outshined Phil in this regard. However this mere factor could not help him make it up to the top. It would be a great fun the next year.
Top 3 - Shawn Rhoden
Shawn Rhoden was not shaken by the last year’s position 4. He re-appeared even fuller, bigger and toned this year. People saw a newer version of Shawn this year who certainly did his best to prove his muscles. However he was not still ready enough to beat the topmost contenders- Phil and Kai.
Top 4 - Dennis Wolf
It was not the newly grown muscles but people could see the newly developed rivalry between Shawn and Dennis this year. Arnold Classic and Olympia kept them toggling back and forth but Olympia 2014 decided their fate. Only a few could see and sense the mixed emotions of the bodybuilder while he walked up to receive the prize for the 4th position.
Top 5 - Dexter Jackson
If there is anyone in the world of bodybuilding with a blend of world class symmetry and amazing conditioning it is Jackson. Including the competition he won in 2008 he has made 15 appearances on the stage of Olympia wherein he was never out of the top 6 listings since 2001. This makes him a near veteran contestant with high winning spirits.
Top 6 - Branch Warren
One of the biggest surprises of Olympia 2014 is the return of Warren. He has re-entered into 6th position this year after a disappointing 9th place last year. The answer however lies in his tremendously conditioned body and of course relentless spirit.
