Dallas, TX, USA (August 27, 2014) -- Unlock your doors and throw away your keys. An emerging company named Chui has combined facial recognition with advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques to make your face your key. "The great thing about your face," says CEO and Co-Founder Shaun Moore, "is that you can't lose it, nor can it be hacked or stolen." Welcome news considering over 20 million keys were lost, and 3.1 million smart phones were stolen in the U.S. last year. (i ii)
Chui's first product is a uniquely intelligent doorbell that uses facial recognition to make one's home keyless, secure, and individualized. Its technology can be proactively set to recognize individuals and perform tasks unique to them. Among other functions, Chui unlocks one's front door and enables other connected home devices upon facial recognition, setting them to the preferences of recognized individuals: adjusting the temperature to that perfect 72 degrees, illuminating lights to one's ideal mood, turning on the TV, and even igniting a connected fireplace (more functions at end of release).

Between 2012-2013, the home-automation market grew by 66 percent, and an estimated 36 million North American and European homes are projected to be smart within the next three years. (iii) While several companies seek to capitalize on the booming market, Chui maintains a unique edge. According to Seth Johnson and Jason Griffing, co-hosts of the popular HomeTech.FM, "There are a number of products on the market that can alert to you to someone being at your door, and send you alerts, notifications, and live streaming video based on this information. And while Chui can do all of this, what takes the product to the next level is its facial recognition technology."
Beyond the home, Chui can be a gateway for the entire Internet of Things (IoT), an industry projected to produce $19 trillion in revenue by 2020. Chui can improve access control, membership management, employee check-in, and numerous other advances. Its technology also allows for more advanced data analysis, enhancing customers' experiences with businesses, through analytics-informed interactions. And while Chui is excited about future commercial applications, for Moore and his team it all begins at home: "To have a smart world we are aware that we need to create smart homes, then smart communities, and then smart cities. That is why Chui's first product makes our increasingly smart homes keyless, secure, and individualized."
Launching only four months ago, Chui has acquired $73,232 in pre-order sales with customers in 32 countries, and was recently named 1 of 19 Semi-Finalists, among a field of 800 international companies, for the Cisco Internet of Things (IoT) Grand Innovation Challenge. Up to six Finalists will be chosen by a panel of Senior Cisco leaders to attend the IoT World Forum in Chicago, October 14-16 to compete for a share of $250,000 in prize money.
