Ravencrest Publishing has just released in hardcover, Mom’s Choice Award winner children’s book, If I Were King, by Randa Handler. If I Were King ISBN: 978-1-932824-21-6 (hc) $15.99; 978-1-932824-20-9 (ebk) $4.99 published by Open Road Media. In this funnny animal tale, a feisty zebra, who is not interested in hanging out with other zebras, decides to befriend unlikely jungle characters, learning along the way what makes each special. Once again, Handler introduces diversity to kids, which is not common in mainstream children’s books.
“There is an outcry for the need of children’s books with diverse characters. These books do exist but their authors are not getting the attention they deserve because they aren’t a household name. Recently, the #WeNeedDiverseBooks tweet went viral. And, I know many authors who have similar missions!” shares Handler.
Handler’s agent, Italia Gandolfo said, “I love how Randa always includes international twists or incorporates multi-ethnic characters in her stories. It’s such a clever way to instill in kids an acceptance and love of diversity. Randa’s books are earning rave reviews from parents and teachers. If anyone can inspire youth, it’s Randa.”
“There are a variety of things that parents could talk to their children about in this story; such as friendship, being true to yourself, being different is okay, dealing with teasing and so on.” -- Kathryn Svendsen, Special Needs Teacher, British Columbia.
“A parent will be hard-pressed to find a more fun book that can introduce differences without being preachy!” -- Rights Advocate and Bestselling Author, Calvin Helin
“What would you do if you were king? What would you do if you were someone else or had attributes like someone else? Those are the kinds of questions children ask, or pretend, so this book will certainly appeal to them as they figure out who they are. A great read for young listeners and readers, especially if they are trying to discover who they are and who their true friends are.” -- Rachel Horon, Educator & Mom, Indiana
“I don’t think I’ve read a book before as enjoyable as this one where differences between people are celebrated and one finds his/her comfort zone among people of different backgrounds. Great book!” -- Bryna Stone, Community Leader, Mom, New Jersey.

The Thanksgiving Dinner Platter; 978-932824-50-6 (ebk), a fun book that explains why Thanksgiving is more than Turkey Day and introduces a similar celebration in Japan. And finally, The Boy Who Spoke To God, ISBN: 978-1-932824-18-6 (hc); 978-1-932824-19-3 (ebk), A young Greek boy, in this folk tale, helps feuding tribes find peace & harmony via his dreams of a perfect God.
