Actress Patricia Arquette took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Boyhood on Sunday. And with her acceptance speech near as grand and memorable as her performance in Richard Linklater's ambitious drama, the actress has suddenly seen her popularity points jump considerably.
As is usually the case with Academy Award recipients, interest has quickly turned from her award-winning role to what Arquette is doing next.
The answer can be found in Electric Slide, the biopic of Los Angeles bank robber Eddie Dodson, which Paragon Releasing has scheduled for release in April.
Just as she did in Boyhood, Arquette plays a mother in Tristan Patterson's film - albeit one of a totally different make and model to 'mom'.
Jim Sturgess plays Dodson, a Melrose Avenue antiques dealer who decided to become a bank robber. Dodson drove to the banks in a black ’63 Ford Galaxy LTD. He dressed up like an elegant criminal. He made mix tapes to listen to on his getaways. And in only nine months, Eddie robbed 64 banks – more than anyone has robbed before or since.
Arquette plays Tina, one of Dodson's sexual conquests.
Described as a 'Polaroid snapshot of 1983 Los Angeles and a love letter to a man who decided to quit reality to live full‐time in the Hollywood movie of his dreams', the film teams Arquette and Sturgess with a strong roster of talent including Australian actress Isabel Lucas (The Water Diviner), Big Love's Chloe Sevigny, Vinessa Shaw (After the Fall), and '90s hitmaker Christopher Lambert.
Electric Slide will release in cinemas and on VOD April 3.
