Baguio City, CAR, PHILIPPINES - February 26, 2020 - CHC AGRITECH Consultant for Agriculture, Edwin B. Espiloy was invited by the office of Baguio City Lone District Representative, Congressman Marquez O. Go, through City Councilor Philian Louise Weygan-Allan, Heading the Committee on Market, Trade and Commerce, and Agriculture, to conduct a seminar to train the Urban Gardener’s Association of Baguio, as part of the City’s food sufficiency, security and greening program. The seminar entitled, “Modern Agriculture: Using Probiotics in Advancing Organic Farming”, was meant to create awareness about probiotics. Attendees were more than 70 participants comprised of different leaders in the disciplines of urban gardening, aquaponics operation, backyard livestock and poultry production in the City of Baguio. The presentation focused on the advantages and benefits of using biofertilizers as a key component in increasing production quality and yield.
Probiotics are live bacteria and/or fungi naturally-occurring in soil or animals that provide health benefits by restoring the flora of the animal’s gut or soil, improving growth, production, strengthens immunity/resistance; and are considered generally safe to consume or to handle. During the opening ceremonies, Head of Baguio City Veterinary Office, Dr. BrigitPiok highlighted the importance of producing yard vegetables and livestock because it can potentially save a household, large sums of money in a form of free food with excess production as barter items for products around the community and can even generate extra income.
