The Distributed Antenna System (DAS) Market is projected to reach $13.74 billion USD by 2023 from $7.75 billion USD in 2017, at a CAGR of 10.9% as per a report by MarketsandMarkets.
How increase in commercial space across ASEAN regions continue to provide opportunities?
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have witnessed tremendous growth in the commercial space business over the last few years, which is mainly driven by the rapid urbanization and rising income levels of the middle class. This also led to the growth in demand for wireless connectivity services in various places such as office and residential buildings, metro stations, subways, airports, and stadiums. According to the World Economic Forum, the major Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand are currently serving as a low-cost alternative to China for living. The number of people migrating from rural regions to urban regions per year is estimated to be ~8 million in Southeast Asia by 2020.

Additionally, the economic growth of the ASEAN region is expected to be beneficial for Singapore as the global firms seek to establish their presence in Southeast Asia, with many selecting the city as their regional headquarters. Therefore, these factors would lead to the additional requirement of more in-building and outdoor wireless services, which would be offered through the deployment of DAS at various sites.
Why complexities involved in the installation of distributed antenna systems to pose a key challenge?
The installation of iDAS or oDAS is a very complex process. Many government regulations along with the infrastructural factors such as the area and location of the facilities need to be considered as a pre-requisite to the installation of DAS. Currently, the typical DAS contracts involving only the hardware (hubs, remote radio heads, nodes, and antennas, among others) normally cost USD 5–10 million. The installation of active and passive DAS depends on the factors such as the price of systems to be installed, area of the facility where the system needs to be installed, type of cabling (coaxial or fiber optic) involved, and power requirement of the systems.
Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), a global association for cabling design and installation professionals, has listed out the steps to be followed at the time of a typical DAS installation; these steps are given in the following figure.
