SuperLawyers, a rating system for lawyers, recognized David P. Shapiro and Stefano Molea of the Law Office of David P. Shapiro as “Rising Stars” in 2019. This is Shapiro’s sixth year in a row being recognized and Molea’s fifth year in a row.
Several steps must be taken in order to receive this prestigious recognition. First, a candidate must be formally nominated by an attorney who is impressed by their work. While an attorney can nominate someone within their own firm, that nomination must be matched by an attorney outside of their firm to qualify.
Lawyers who were not formally nominated can still be nominated if SuperLawyers’ research team discovers impressive attorneys who may have been overlooked. Non-practicing attorneys may also send names of lawyers to be researched for this nomination process.
Next, the SuperLawyers research team evaluates candidates on the following factors: verdicts/settlements, transactions, representative clients, experience, honors/awards, special licenses/certifications, position within the law firm, bar and/or professional activity, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures/writings, education/employment background, and other outstanding achievements.
After this evaluation, there is a peer evaluation by practice area, known as the “blue ribbon review.” Finally, lawyers are grouped into four firm size categories and those with the highest points in each category are selected.
In order to be eligible for a Rising Star recognition, an attorney must be forty years old or younger, or only have been practicing for ten years or less.
