Chandigarh – August 3, 2015 – White Falcon Publishing, a Chandigarh-based startup founded in 2014, offers one of its kind Print-On-Demand Self-publishing Platform (http://www.self-publish.in) for publishing books. Print on Demand (POD) — As the name suggests, POD is about printing only when there is a demand, instead of maintaining a huge inventory all the time. White Falcon Publishing has to its credit more than 120 published books in less than a year.
White Falcon Publishing today announced India's first Free Academic Publishing Platform — ScholarGram (http://scholargram.com). ScholarGram is an open and free to use platform for publishing scholarly works including thesis, dissertations, research papers, project reports, conference proceedings and journals into print and eBooks. ScholarGram aims to bring the research work done by scholars in India from the dusty shelves of their institutes' libraries to the forefront so that the same are easily accessible to anyone and everyone who needs them. With ScholarGram, academic works can be retained forever as print and eBooks.
White Falcon Publishing aims to assist authors in publishing their books for global distribution online. The startup has collaborations with a huge network of globally diverse Print-On-Demand providers and book distributors. It is through its this demographically diverse network that the startup is able to make its customers’ books available for sale in various countries like USA, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Australia.
The brain behind the start-up is Navsangeet Kaur, Director & Founder, White Falcon Publishing who currently heads the operations at White Falcon Publishing had left her job in Reliance Industries Ltd in 2013 to start her own venture. With not many companies offering quality self-publishing services at affordable costs, she found an opportunity to enter the market. An exhaustive market study helped lay the plan for step by step service delivery and expansion. Crucial tie-ups were sought with partners to build a full-fledged IT driven publishing firm that relies both on sound IT processes and an experienced staff to publish high quality books with worldwide availability.
Navsangeet Kaur, informed, “With an estimated market of INR 10,000 crores, India ranks third after the US and UK in English language publishing. Self-publishing trend is rapidly growing in India as it addresses many of the challenges faced in traditional publishing, both from the perspective of the authors and the publishers. In this model, the author also doubles up as the publisher of the book. Authors can avail various professional services for making their manuscripts print-ready. Once the work is published, the books are listed on online channels for sale worldwide. Books are then printed as and when the orders are placed on the online channels. Hence, neither the author nor the publisher has to take a big risk by making a big investment in bulk printing of books. In India, the books are sold on eCommerce websites such as Amazon.in, Flipkart, Paytm and ShopClues.”
Where traditional publishers take upto 6-12 months to bring a book into the market, self-publishing model helps authors get their books published in a very short span of few days to few weeks. Traditional publishers print the books for maximum 2-4 years depending upon sales and then do away with the book. Books published through the POD platform of White Falcon Publishing never go out-of-print and help earn higher royalty for the authors. The platform also provides the authors with the facility to view live sales/royalty reports through the POD platform, hence giving them a complete transparency about the whole process. Authors can choose the optimal sale price for their books and estimate the royalty using the royalty calculator provided by the platform. Royalties are paid to the authors directly on a regular basis. Royalty rate offered is higher than in traditional publishing as there are fewer intermediaries involved.
