Kirkpatrick & Lai Orthodontics Gives Back to Children in Need

"You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want." – Zig Ziglar
Tulsa Orthodontist is Giving Smiles and Birthdays to Foster Care Children

As an orthodontist, business owner, husband and father of four children, Dr. Joe Lai has always strived for balance in his life including faith, family, finances and stewardship of giving back to others.

“It is easy to give back personally to our children, our church, our school and our community, but as the owner of Kirkpatrick and Lai Orthodontics, I never really thought about what we could do as a company to give back. We were in the business of giving smiles to children every day but how could we make an even bigger impact on the lives of children,” says Dr. Joe Lai of Kirkpatrick & Lai Orthodontics.

A favorite quote of Dr. Joe Lai from American author and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar states, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

After doing some research on Tulsa area non-profits, Dr. Lai learned of Royal Family Kids, an organization that helps foster children in need by putting on summer camps where they mentor these children and make a huge impact on their lives. Many of these children have never had a birthday party let alone the necessities they need to thrive in life. In fact, 3.6 million cases of child abuse, neglect or abandonment are reported every year in the U.S. I thought of all of the birthday parties my kids have enjoyed every year. They have no concept of not celebrating their big day.

That’s when Kirkpatrick & Lai Orthodontics decided as a company, to adopt Royal Family Kids as their charity and do everything they could to give back by launching our “Giving Smiles, Giving Birthdays” campaign where they donate money for every new patient that comes to our office. The result has been incredible as many children’s lives have been changed, their staff has come together for the good of others and they’ve even had new patients come to the office as a result of us giving back.

Mother Teresa said it best, “At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.’

Dr. Joe Lai, owner of Kirkpatrick & Lai Orthodontics, received his doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and his Masters of Science in Orthodontics. Lai is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.
