IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council NASSCOM collaborates with Hindustan University to offer courses with Global Business Foundation Skills and Foundation Skills in IT

Aimed at building a robust skills foundation for a market ready future workforce

Chennai, October 28, 2014: IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council(SSC) NASSCOM today announced that it has entered into a collaborative MoU with Hindustan University in Chennai. Under this MoU, Hindustan University will integrate Global Business Foundation Skills (GBFS) and Foundation Skills in IT (FSIT) Courseware developed by IT-ITeS SSC NASSCOM in its curriculum.The strategic alliance aims to offer measurable training programs to students and enhance employability skill sets of graduates.

The Indian IT–BPM Industry currently employs about 3.1 million people directly and about 9 million indirectly. As per the NASSCOM Perspective 2020 report, the industry has a potential to contribute to, as much as, 30 million employment opportunities (direct and indirect) by 2020.

On the occasion Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Executive Director, SSC NASSCOM & Vice President, NASSCOM said “This MoU is a key milestone in our mission to develop a skills ready workforce for the IT-BPM industry. According to the National Skills Mission, about 500 million professionals would need to be skilled by 2022 to make them employable.To be able to achieve this target, a structured approach involving all stakeholders is imperative. Skill gap needs to be addressed through comprehensive efforts, at various levels and catering to different needs of the society and industry. Through this collaboration, we hope we will be able to nurture the next generation of talent for the industry at large.”

Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, Hindustan University, said, "we congratulate Nasscom for the effort and inroads it has made in developing skills ready workforce for the IT-BMP Industry. We are extremely happy to be associated with them for bettering the employability chances of students who will be stepping out of our portals very soon."

With this initiative we are confident that our students will gain a competitive advantage of being an industry ready workforce by the end off their study here. This will address the existing skill gaps in the present generation and the ever increasing requirement for employable workforce in the industry every year.  

IT-ITeSSSCNASSCOM will conduct ‘Train-the-Trainer’ program for college faculty involved in this project to give them a holistic view of the initiative. Only the trained faculty members will be able to train students on the GBFS& FSIT program. Under this MoU,IT-ITeS SSC NASSCOM will also provide guidelines & recommendations related to aspects of the GBFS & FSIT program such as faculty selection, student selection, infrastructure for training and evaluation. Hindustan University will conduct the NASSCOM Assessment of Competence (NAC) & NAC-Tech before and after the GBFS& FSIT training and mobilize the faculty to facilitate teaching-learning support for pursuance of the courses to enhance student employability.
