Domestic Violence and Child Molestation No Longer a Source of Shame

When Gwendolyn Plano made the hardest decision of her life, she realized there was much she needed to learn. Sometimes she could not see the choices before her; she felt more a victim than a master of her fate. And so she became a pilgrim of sorts--searching for healing and purpose. Gwen traveled across the oceans and throughout much of the United States in search of a secret elixir. Along the way, she discovered that she did not travel alone. There were others, many others, who accompanied her.

What was she running from? Domestic violence. Child abuse. Yes, those were the issues that drove her to the fateful day when she left her abusive husband. Because of what unfolded, Gwen felt compelled to tell her story in what has been described as “a powerfully poignant memoir.” She is committed to help others find the joy they seek.

Jack W. Staton wrote in his review, “Letting Go into Perfect Love, Discovering the Extraordinary after Abuse Love is not just a book, it is a piece of gold! It is an uplifting and inspirational account of resilience and hope for survivors of domestic violence and child sexual abuse. It has spot on descriptive accounts of isolation and despair woven into the lifeline of faith, hope, and healing. Amazing and remarkable! I couldn't put it down. The message is not from the words on the page but the language spoken from the heart. It is a must read!“

Professionally, Gwen taught and served as an administrator in colleges in Japan, New York, Connecticut, and California. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, a master's degree in theology from the University of the State of New York's Maryknoll Seminary and a master's degree in counseling from Iona College. She also earned a doctorate in education from Columbia University. Gwen now directs her efforts toward helping others through public speaking and her website, www.gwenplano.com, where many reach out to her for support and solace.

Plano says, “In between travels with my husband and visits with family and friends, I now write. My first book, Letting Go into Perfect Love, Discovering the Extraordinary after Abuse, was published in June 2014 by She Writes Press. Though the book was an accomplishment of no small measure for me, my greatest treasure and most profound source of joy has been and is my four adult children. It is they who have guided me through life's mysteries.”

The official launch will take place on November 5, 2014 at http://lettinggo.homestead.com
