Kenwood Academy student first to receive Tansimore Scholarship

Kenwood Academy student first to receive Tansimore Scholarship
Radio personality Ollie "OT" Tansimore created the scholarship fund last year to honor the legacy of his mother Etherine, a longtime nurse who passed away in 2019. During her life, Etherine Tansimore was a supporter of all health care workers, and loved encouraging others to pursue their academic and career dreams, especially younger people.

OT, the host of the nationally heard OT Radio Show, said his mother always was great at motivating himself and others to always reach for the stars and consistently aim for excellence. But at the same time, she emphasizes how important it was to always stay humble and give back to your community. She was a firm believer in mentoring and encouraging others.

When creating the scholarship fund in her memory, organizers set eligibility criteria for applicants, including requiring them to have at least a 2.5 GPA; come from a low-income background; and be interested in studying a medical field when they attend an accredited college or university.

Applications for the first round were accepted from students across the country in December.

As the first recipient of this scholarship, Taylor Lofton will receive $1,000 to be used for fall semester at the school of her choosing.

OT grew up in the Germantown area. He was part of the first graduating class at Philadelphia Futures, a program designed to help low-income students succeed in high school and college. He graduated from Temple University with a degree in computer information technology.

After 13 years in the computer field, he decided to pursue a career a radio and launched his show, which can be heard as a podcast on Blogtalk Radio and YouTube. It later expanded into the OT Radio Network and is heard in 2,700 cities nationwide. The network was also recently chosen as the top podcast station in the Atlanta area.

He currently lives in Delaware and is also a motivational speaker and philanthropist.

When creating the scholarship fund, OT felt it was a great way to celebrate his mother’s life, encourage young people, and help them reduce their future debt load from college.

He hopes to continue funding the scholarship, and hopes to get to a point when a total of 10 students receive $1,000 each year.

OT also invites other businesses to help with this goal by supporting and growing the scholarship fund.  Donations are tax deductible.
