Local Nonprofit "The Patient Is U" (TPIU) Announces End of Year Appeal to Further its Mission During a Pandemic When Compassionate Care is Critical

Coronavirus Separates Family Members and Increases Need for Compassionate Care in the Healthcare System

Essex, CT - December 16, 2020 - The Patient Is U (TPIU), a nonprofit based out of Connecticut with a mission to improve the level of compassionate care in the healthcare system in an effort to improve patient outcomes, today announced their end of year appeal for donations. In the midst of a pandemic that is separating infected patients from family and isolating the most ill in the hospital, without the ability to receive visitors, the need for compassionate care by healthcare providers is critical, particularly during the holiday season.

TPIU’s mission statement sums up their heartfelt cause: “To take care of patients as if you or your loved one is the patient. To enhance humanism and offer solutions for caregivers.” While cases of the coronavirus surge across the country as colder weather forces an already COVID-weary public into a stricter quarantine, the need for TPIU’s efforts grow more evident as ICU’s fill and the healing power of visits from family and friends are forbidden.

“We were fervent advocates for compassionate care pre-COVID, and this horrible pandemic has only strengthened our resolve to improve the patient experience and better personalize the patient-provider relationship,” said Dr. Michael Crain, President and Executive Director of TPIU. “Not only is it the right thing to do, compassionate care is proven to improve patient outcomes by increasing patient satisfaction, fostering better communication and increasing the likelihood of patient adherence to prescribed treatments and medication regimens.”

During the season of giving, TPIU is asking for any size donation to help further their mission through mentorship programs for students from the healthcare professions, seminars and tutorials for institutional and non-institutional health care providers and increased public awareness.

ABOUT THE PATIENT IS U (TPIU)

The goals of TPIU’s nonprofit foundation are to empower and share its philosophies to institutional healthcare providers such as hospitals, surgery centers, nursing homes as well as non-institutional providers such as doctors, nurses, medical secretaries or anyone who comes into contact with patients or their families. TPIU sponsors seminars, tutorials, as well as mentorships. TPIU believes that compassionate care is not limited to the patient’s interaction with doctors and nurses, but extends to every interaction in the patient journey, from the initial phone call with the receptionist to the conversation with the outgoing parking lot attendant.
