Construction on main structure of Hangzhou Asian Games Village completed

Construction on the main structure of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games Village has been completed, and a ceremony was held at the construction site on Dec 24.

Miao Chengchao, deputy secretary-general of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee and vice-mayor of Hangzhou, made the announcement at the ceremony, which was attended by Hangzhou Vice-Mayor Chen Weiqiang and other officials.

Moving forward, construction work will focus on interior decoration, landscaping, and curtain walls. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and the village is expected to begin operating in March 2022.

The village covers a total area of 113 hectares and consists of a sub-village for athletes, technical officials, and media workers, as well as an International Section and a Public Section. It has 108 buildings in total.

During the games, the village will accommodate more than 10,000 athletes, nearly 4,000 technical officials, and nearly 5,000 media workers and provide catering and medical services for them.

Residential communities in Xiacheng district, China Hangzhou are turning more intelligent, local media outlets reported on Dec 21.

This has been a result of the intelligent governance system being put into use on June 8 this year, which aims to bolster governance in local residential communities in a more efficient and targeted manner.

The system has gained data and technological support from City Brain, a platform popular in Hangzhou to improve urban management through the use of cutting-edge technologies like big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.

It can also access data from government departments, such as public security, civil affairs, social security, and urban management, as well as social service organizations and property management companies at residential communities.

"The system has an automatic informing function, which can help us manage affairs at the first instance and has greatly improved our work efficiency," said Shao Lijing, director of the Xiandaicheng residential community.

"For example, a senior citizen in our community has just turned 90 years old and the system has informed me to help her apply for a higher old-age allowance."

Aside from senior care functions, the system also encourages younger residents to propose their ideas on residential community governance and to take on more active roles.
