Top 3 Traits of Reliable Vendors that Drive Success

November 30th, 2018 - San Antonio, Texas - Vendors are essential to almost every business, providing services and supplies that companies need to operate. More than sources for materials, vendors can be an important business tool in helping clients evaluate the potential of new products, maintaining general overhead, and identifying promising opportunities.

Creating a strong relationship with contractors goes far beyond offering the best deals and lowest overhead. When businesses work with vendors who demonstrate high standards, the vendors become partners in the company’s success.

Many companies have one main focus when seeking a vendor: price. Although the price is important in growing a business, having a high standard for service is extremely important in building a strong business reputation.

Lucky Cleaning, LLC., a commercial property maintenance company based in San Antonio, has spent the past 11 years establishing outstanding customer service with its clientele. Lorenzo Reyna III, the owner of Lucky Cleaning, explained how he has built his business on reliability and has offered a few tips to other entrepreneurs looking to break into the service industry.

Timeliness

Early in Lorenzo’s journey to establish Lucky Cleaning, he recalls the advice that his father-in-law offered: "Always answer the phone, and always say Yes.” This is the mantra that he still practices today.

This was solid advice, especially since it costs six to seven times more to acquire a new customer than to work with the same client base. Offering a response within 24 hours once was acceptable, but in today’s business setting, the average time for an email response is under an hour.

"I know that I can call Lorenzo at any time, day or night, and he will help me solve whatever issues I am dealing with. He is prompt, diligent, and trust worthy," explains Mary Lou Kubena, a property manager at Valcor Commercial Real Estate who has been working with Lorenzo since he started Lucky Cleaning. "His desire to do an excellent job all the time is what I admire the most about Lorenzo. When faced with an overwhelming task, he has consistently demonstrated grit and intentional stewardship; two core values that we at Valcor embrace."

Timeliness is crucial to how customers view a vendor’s reliability. Oftentimes, the biggest factor of service is speed, especially if the need is time-sensitive. Responding to emails or phone calls with haste positively reflects the services provided.

Ongoing Training

The world of contract work is undoubtedly competitive, and in order to maintain a competitive edge, vendors must be aware of different business demands. The not-so-secret to success in any venture is to practice continual learning. Continual training demonstrates the character of a company through its desire to improve.

When asked how he began adding to Lucky’s Cleaning services, Lorenzo explains, “We started off as window and carpet cleaners, that was it. It was tough the first year, trying to plant our flag and meet clients. Little by little we have introduced a more maintenance type business. Our clients were growing and we wanted to grow with them.”

Vendors, who show that they are progressing and developing their skill set, are more likely to be considered as the type of company clients would want to work with. Moreover, the whole process of expanding capabilities can open doors to new industries and new clients.

Integrity

When presented with honesty, clients can become loyal enthusiasts of their suppliers. Honesty doesn’t mean being perfect. For vendors, it simply means truthfully communicating the challenges being faced and then putting in the legwork needed to address challenges.

Priscilla Aguilar, who has worked with Lucky Cleaning for three years through Valcor, explained, “Lorenzo has always demonstrated a spirit of integrity. It is important for us to be able to trust our vendors. We trust Lorenzo a great deal!”

Reliable vendors come up with plans to rectify any errors that occur on the job and reassure their clients that they are working on a solution. By presenting a strategy and explaining how long it will take to implement it, clients will know that they have placed their trust in the right people.

As a vendor, Lucky Cleaning strives to work with other businesses to create lasting relationships, and Lorenzo believes that transparency and honesty are vital. “It’s not just about making a name for your business, it’s the way you carry and present yourself, how diligently you rely on ethics to mitigate your failures and drive your successes.”
