The 35th Legitimate Sultan of Sulu, HM Muedzul-Lail Tan Kiram Conferred as Royal Man of Asia

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, most parts of Mindanao, Philippines have been a separate territory, which enabled it to develop its own culture and identity. The Royal Sultanate of Sulu was founded in 1457 by Malacca-born scholar Sayed-al-Hashim Abu Bakr. The Sultanate of Sulu was a mighty sea power and enjoyed full independence until, in a course of a bloody struggle, the Sultanate was forced to become a vassal realm of Spain in 1851. Later Sulu became a dependent of the USA and then of the Philippines; the Sultanate's statehood and the Sultan's sovereign prerogatives underwent further restrictions but never were abolished. In 1962 the Philippine Government officially confirmed the recognition of the continued existence of the Royal Sultanate of Sulu, with now the current Sultan, HM King Muedzul Lail Tan Kiram. the 35th legitimate Sultan of Sulu.
