Maria Cucuteanu, a 20-year-old woman from Romania, currently suffering from Hepatitis C has turned to the popular crowdfunding website Youcaring.com to gather funds for her treatment. She is struggling to pay her medical bills and in dire need of €35,000 for getting proper treatment and to pay for the medicines. The fundraiser is organized by her friend Conway Churaman who wishes to help her friend in getting through the disease with proper diagnosis and treatment.
Maria was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and liver damage on October 2nd, 2017. She has endured a lot of hardships and pain throughout her young life yet she maintained a positive spirit and enthusiasm for life. “Maria has always been able to maintain her poise, her dignity, and a passion for life that refuses to be extinguished. Maria possesses a personal courage few people her age has. She is my hero”, says Conway talking about her friend.
Romania has the highest cases of hepatitis C in the European Union, possibly due to the tainted blood transmissions 30 to 40 years ago according to the European Live Patients Association. Despite the fact that there are a number of cases of Hepatitis C, it is difficult for citizens to get proper medicines due to their high prices in the pharmacies. There is no way for an average salaried citizen to buy the high-cost medicines to combat the disease and halt the damage to the liver at its early stage.
Due to all these scenarios, Conway has to turn to the masses for support to get her friend over this disease. The success of the campaign will ensure that she’s able to obtain various medications designed to combat Hep C and also fund a special diet plan designed to help her body recover from the disease. The funds will also go to paying for living expenses for a set amount of recovery time so she won’t have to work while coping with the physical pain.
Conway urges the masses to support this campaign because if she won’t get the proper treatment, her liver will get damaged to no point of recovery. Even if the fundraising goal is not met, a modest amount will help too. She will somehow by the grace of God manage the rest of the funds from friends and relatives but frankly, it would save Maria's life if the fundraiser becomes successful.
