Recovery Addiction Services, an addiction treatment placement service, announced a collaboration with the West Deptford Township Police Department to provide an addiction training course for first responders. The online recovery resource will sponsor the training course which is headed by Officer Thomas McWain of Ocean County, New Jersey.
“I can speak with first hand knowledge that there is no addictions training in the police academy and we often are clueless about resources that are available to us,” Officer McWain said.
Officer Thomas McWain understands, as well as Recovery Addiction Services, the heft of the drug problem facing this country and believes that education plays a huge part in the solution, especially for our first responders. This training will put in place an educational foundation that, until now, didn’t exist.
He’s about to change all of that. The goals of the course are to provide education for police officers to understand the disease of addiction as well as the stigma that is so often associated with it. It will also teach them about addiction resources in their area and how they can help.
The training course will instructed by Dr. Cali Estes of The Addictions Academy, as well as a cameo or two from Officer McWain himself. It will be held at the Stafford Township Arts Center in Manahawkin on September 22nd from 9 AM to 5 PM and will bring together 200 first responders from across New Jersey.
