Due to the success of the Lion King soundtrack, a musical adaptation debuted on July 8, 1997 at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Broadway musical Lion King became an instant success with positive critic reviews even before its premiere on Broadway on November 13, 1997. The musical has been ongoing for the past eighteen years in different countries all over the world such as Tokyo, London, Hamburg, Paris, Seoul, Johannesburg, Mexico, Taipei, Madrid, Singapore, United Kingdom and of course United States.
Minor changes were made for the musical adaptation such as Rafiki’s gender which has become female. New scenes which were not in the film were also added such as Nala’s departure in the scene “The Madness of King Scar”. There were also additional songs such as “Morning Report”, “Shadowland”, “Endless Night” and “One by One”. Witness the wonder of Lion King all over again and watch the Broadway production of Lion King the Musical.
The Durham Performing Arts Center opened up at the end of November in 2008 and this state-of-the-art venue is considered to be the biggest performing arts center in the Carolinas. It cost $48 million to build and this venue hosts in excess of 200 performances a year. Some of the events it hosts include Broadway productions, concerts, comedy shows, family shows and the American Dance Festival. It is located at 123 Vivian Street in Durham.
