MANHATTAN, New York - December 28, 2015 - Actor, playwright and producer Alexis Chevalier recently announced the return of his incredible stage play “Defendant Maurice Chevalier.” The show, initially produced at The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in the Summer of 2015 received an award for writing. It is a period drama based on the true story of famous French actor, singer, and entertainer Maurice Chevalier. Condemned to death for collaboration with the Nazis, the popular French artist tells his accusers his side of the story. Beginning with his departure from Hollywood to sticking to the French stage until the end of World War II, he recalls ten years of his life. As he keeps performing and is considered the worldwide symbol of France, Maurice Chevalier is struggling to protect his Jewish wife Nita from the Nazis and is torn between the propaganda wars of the Nazis, the Collaborators and even the Resistance.
So, Alexis Chevalier is excited to announce that “Defendant Maurice Chevalier” will be playing at the American Theater of Actors, from February 8 to February 21. However, before they can hire a lighting and sound designer and market the play’s exciting, new run, Chevalier and his team need help. That’s why he launched this Kickstarter campaign. The goal of this project is to raise $3,500 by January 14, 2016. The funds raised will go towards props, costumes, marketing, and hiring a lighting and sound designer. Backers of the project are entitled to the listed rewards with no attachment whatsoever to the actual success of the production.
