Brazil seized control of the tobacco market. In 2014, Brazil exported 461 thousand tonnes of tobacco totaling 2,414 million USD, 24% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Belgium, where it supplied 17% of its total tobacco exports in value terms, accounting for 48% of Belgium's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Brazil was a net exporter of tobacco. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

The U.S. and Zimbabwe were among the other main global suppliers of tobacco in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were the Netherlands (+27% per year) and Zimbabwe (+21% per year). Zimbabwe significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Brazil's top 5 trading partners were Belgium, China, the U.S., the Russian Federation and the Netherlands, with a combined 52% share of Brazil's tobacco exports. While the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-3 percentage points), the shares of remaining countries were relatively stable.
