Overall, the global plum and sloe trade reached 696 million USD, with a CAGR of 3% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed steady growth, rising from 522 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 574 thousand tonnes in 2014.
In 2014, the United Kingdom (12%), the Netherlands (10%), Germany (7%), the Russian Federation (7%) and China (7%) were the leading destinations of plum and sloe imports, together making up 43% of global imports. The share of China increased (+5 percentage points), while the share of the United Kingdom illustrated negative dynamics (-7 percentage points).
Chile and South Africa were among the other main global suppliers of plums and sloes in 2014 with a combined 28% share of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+42% per year) and South Africa (+15% per year). This sustained growth allowed South Africa to more than double its position in the global export structure, from 6% in 2007 to 14% in 2014.
