W12 - Social Media is becoming Important in Conferences

Social media can improve the effectiveness of a conference quite substantially.

Conferences are great at getting people together in one place. Businesses use them effectively to increase sales, boost brand awareness and to release new products. While they can be quite expensive and much more than a webinar for example, they enable you to network with your delegates and build business relationships. This is something that isn’t possible with webinars as they lack the personal touch.

The only problem is that conferences are limited to the number of people at the event. Holding a conference and integrating social media into it allows you to benefit from the personal touch of a face to face meeting whilst also spreading your message to thousands of people online.

Tony Steedman from W12 Conferences, an events venue where you can rent a meeting room in West London, explained that “integrating social media into your event allows you to get the most out of your conference. The best way of doing this is through second screen technology which allows delegates to view content on their mobile device in real time which they can then take screenshots of and share online. Gone are the days where companies want to keep conference content hidden in fear of it being plagiarised. Now companies want it to be shared as it helps to boost brand awareness.

Mr. Steedman went on to say “in the past it was deemed rude if you were sat on your phone at a conference as it meant you were not concentrating, now it is almost encouraged as it often means that you are sharing their content. Companies want you to share their content and to get involved.”
