London is one of the biggest cities in the world as well as being one of the most popular. Thousands of tourists visit every year. It is also popular with businesses and has a great business culture.
As well as being a beautiful city, it was recently voted number 1 in the world for business by Forbes Magazine in a recent survey of the most influential cities. Given this, its great transport links and the number of great venues, it is arguably the best place to hold a conference as well.
One of the key reasons London was ranked number one for business was because of the amount of foreign investment as investors see London as a growth market and where they can make money. Investors are choosing to put their money into London instead of other cities around the world.
Another reason is it has a high concentration of corporate headquarters per capita. 68 of the biggest companies on the Forbes Global 2000 list are headquartered in London and it is the top city in Europe for technology start-ups, according to the Start-up Genome project, which estimates there to be 3,000.
Joel Kotkin from Forbes Magazine explains why London is a dominant business hub. “A preferred domicile for the global rich, London is not only the historic capital of the English language, which contributes to its status as a powerful media hub and major advertising centre, but it’s also the birthplace of the cultural, legal and business practices that define global capitalism.”
It makes sense to hold a conference in a city with such a huge business culture. Conference room hire in London is becoming more and more popular as businesses realise it is a great city for business. Stephanie Ellrott from RIBA Venues, said: “bookings are increasing as people choose to hold their conference in London. The value of face to face meetings is huge as it helps to build business relationships.”
