RIBA Venues: Technology is changing how modern meetings are conducted

It is now possible to connect with others online during meetings

UK - December 15, 2014 - Technology is improving all of the time and it plays a growing role in the business world. Experts say meetings and conferences are becoming more “connected, integrating technology into live events and allowing participants to virtually attend.”

According to Michael Peachy from Salesfore.com, more than 5 billion mobile devices are in use today. Mr Peachy said at Wired, “behind every device is an attendee, and they are plugged into apps and social networks”. He went on to say “the way conferences use mobile devices to present content is critical.” The increasing role technology plays on conferences will also affect networking. “Making new professional connections is one of the best reasons for attending a conference,” Peachy said. “However, unless you’re a power networker, it can be difficult to grow your contact base, even at a big conference. Connected conferences excel at forming real-time communities.”

Ms. Ellrott from a major central London conference venue, RIBA Venues said it is important for meeting planners to find venue space that allow for virtual elements and other customisation. “Great meeting rooms’ meet all of the host’s and delegates needs,” she said. “This includes virtual elements to help keep delegates engaged and accommodate internet usage and teleconferencing.”

This trend is supported by a study of conference-planning professionals. According to the study, around 42 percent of respondents said technology will be increasingly influential in the meetings industry over the next 15 years. Live events will incorporate virtual components more and more.

Ms Ellrott went on to say that the increasing role of technology is changing the events industry as a whole.  RIBA Venues has a number of multipurpose rooms that offer modern facilities with full audio visual equipment and Wi-Fi available for hire. The rooms, which accommodate up to 400 delegates, also use a state-of-the-art light and sound system. Ms Ellrott believes that “it is important to be at the forefront of technology and meet the changing needs of conference planners.”
