New Comic Book Anthology Launches On Kickstarter to Showcase Budding Artists

Recently, comic book author Lorenz Lammens launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for ‘Emerging,’ a new comic book anthology that is designed to find and develop the most promising artists in the industry. The project will compile a series of comic book short stories told in various genres including superhero, sci-fi, spy capers, steampunk and more.

"We are creating a community of emerging comic book artists” says Lorenz Lammens, the creator of the Kickstarter project. “By developing them under the supervision of an Art Director, and giving them a platform, we can help them get published and showcase their talent. Ultimately, our studio, Octane Comics, will pitch the work of these artists to big publishers, such as Image Comics, Dark Horse and Boom!”

The comic book anthology will feature a variety of up-and-coming artists who will have access to an Art Director and established comic book artists who will help ensure the production of high quality work. Octane Comics, the comic book studio behind this project, will then select the artists that show the most promise and give them the chance to create their own book, which will be marketed to larger publishers. Unlike other talent scouting projects, every artist on the book is paid a professional page rate (based on ability). They also get bonus payments when the Kickstarter project reaches stretch goals,

"It's an exciting first step in exploring the future of comics: right now we are trying to find the best new artists, while we are trying to innovate on the medium and the way we tell stories,” says Lammens. "I never imagined that I would have to start my own comic book studio when I wanted to break into comics as a writer. But it's been a blast.”

Having already hired a talented Art Director and self-financed enough story and art for a 64-page comic book, the biggest portion of the project has been completed. However, the team decided to turn to Kickstarter to involve comic book enthusiasts in the anthology. Additionally, the financing will help give more budding artists the chance to have their work showcased in the anthology.

In exchange for supporting the project on Kickstarter, backers will gain access to a variety of exclusive rewards including a physical or digital copy of the anthology, a signed limited edition version of the work, a video download of the motion comics, the chance to have one of the contributing artists recreate the backer as a comic book character, the ability to have an executive producers credit, and more. Many of these rewards are limited in quantity and should be claimed as early as possible.

The project will be live on Kickstarter until January 14th, during which time the above ‘perks’ or ’rewards’ can be claimed. For more information, check out the project here or contact the creator below.
