Columbine tragedy inspires new horror film An American Terror

An American Terror is now on DVD and VOD through Uncork'd Entertainment
Haylar Garcia wanted to make a frightening movie with a message

A new movie made in Colorado is driving much of the holiday party conversations this Christmas season.

The festival favorite An American Terror, from visionary director Haylar Garcia, features a story lifted straight from the headlines but combines it with a more straightforward horror narrative.

The fiilm, which is garnering great reviews, tells of three teens, marginalized by their schoolmates, tho decide to turn their gray existence around and be noticed. To do it they come up with a macabre plan, consisting of carrying out a massacre at school. But while they’re preparing the bloodbath, they’ll run into something much darker and more perverse than their own bloody ideas.

Garcia says the idea to make a real-world horror movie about a school shooting was a "no brainer."

"As a Colorado native, the Columbine tragedy has always lurked in mind, and when I felt the need to make a horror film that actually meant something, it kind of felt like a no brainer. We like to think of it as using genre horror to explore social horror."

An American Terror was released on DVD and VOD this week.
