Substrate Troughs Grow "Global Fruits": Greenhouse Strawberries Open Up New International Trails

As the winter chill deepens, the Greenhouses at smart agricultural bases home and abroad remain warm and filled with the rich fragrance of fruits. Rows of neat elevated substrate troughs have replaced traditional furrows, and plump, juicy strawberries hang among the green leaves, bright in color and delicate-looking.

"Traditional soil-grown strawberries are often plagued by continuous cropping obstacles and soil-borne diseases, making it difficult to stably guarantee quality and yield. However, substrate trough cultivation fundamentally solves these problems," said the technical director of the agricultural science and technology demonstration park. The base uses a special substrate mixed with coconut coir, perlite, etc., which is put into standardized cultivation troughs to replace soil. This not only cuts off the transmission path of soil-borne diseases and insect pests, but also has the advantages of good fertilizer and water retention and air permeability, allowing strawberry roots to grow healthily in a clean environment. At the same time, the substrate troughs are raised about 1.2 meters in height, which not only avoids fruit contamination from soil dust, but also eliminates the need for bending over during picking, greatly improving management efficiency and tourists' picking experience.

Technology empowers the entire planting process, making strawberry growth more "precise and controllable". The greenhouses are equipped with intelligent environmental control systems that use sensors to monitor parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, and carbon dioxide concentration in real time. Once these parameters exceed the set thresholds, devices such as sunshade curtains, ventilators, and supplementary light lamps will start automatically for adjustment, ensuring that strawberries are always in the optimal growing environment. Combined with the integrated water and fertilizer system, purified "pure water" and fish protein organic water-soluble fertilizer are accurately proportioned and then delivered directly to the roots through drip irrigation belts, enabling efficient nutrient absorption. Compared with traditional cultivation, this method saves more than 80% of water and over 35% of fertilizers, truly practicing the concept of green and low-carbon agricultural development.

Greenhouse substrate trough cultivation not only improves strawberry quality, but also brings considerable economic benefits and industrial value. With the three-dimensional cultivation model, land use efficiency has been greatly improved, and the annual output has increased more than six times compared with the traditional model.
