Tell us about (dis)Empowered.

Despite being raised in a loving family, life left me traumatized and at my wit's end. I had no home, no job, no relationship, and no hope of having a family.

Even though I escaped from an abusive husband, I was controlled by the unshakable stigma of dyslexia that erased any shred of my self-worth. I couldn’t see that I was a victim of trauma until one fateful day, on a crowded highway, when I had a realization that would change the trajectory of my life.

(dis)Empowered traces my journey from a troubled child trapped in an educational system that believed I was broken, to an insecure adult who grasped at each success like a rung on a ladder. But as I climbed, the view never changed because I could not see my own successes. All I saw was a woman who was unworthy, incapable, and powerless.

After being deceived into a marriage with a narcissist and left with nothing, I surrendered to a higher power. And in one epiphanic moment, I realized that everything that had happened TO me, had actually happened FOR me.

A memoir designed to uplift, empower and engage, (dis)Empowered is ultimately a testament to the human spirit’s ability to heal, grow, and rise above adversity.

What inspired you to write (dis)Empowered?

I was inspired to write (dis)Empowered to shed light on the impact disempowerment, particularly during childhood, can have on our lives. Sharing my story felt like a way to give voice to the struggles I endured, and to help others who might feel trapped in similar situations. Most importantly, I wanted to show that healing, transformation, and reclaiming one’s personal power are possible, and that even in the face of life’s greatest trials, hope and resilience can light the way forward.

Writing this book allowed me to transform my struggles into tools for empowerment, offering guidance and hope to those seeking to overcome their own challenges. By sharing my personal journey of healing along with practical insights readers can apply to their own lives, my goal is to inspire others to embrace their strength, rewrite their story, and create lives that truly reflect their worth.

What is one message you would like readers to remember?

No matter how broken you may feel, you have the strength within you to heal, reclaim your power, and create a life on your own terms.

You don’t have to be defined by your past, or the hardships you’ve endured. By embracing vulnerability, seeking support, and taking small but intentional steps, you can overcome trauma, break free from toxic cycles, and rediscover your true self-worth.

My hope is that you finish this book feeling inspired and equipped to take control of your own story, understanding that empowerment begins with believing in your ability to change and grow, no matter the circumstances.
