Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Recognized at HBC 2024 International Awards

Doha, Qatar - The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) achieved outstanding recognition at the HBC 2024 International Awards held on November 9 in Riyadh. The ceremony celebrated international excellence and drew distinguished guests, including H.E. Almarri Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed, Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs - Dubai; His Excellency Dr. Engineer Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, President of Qatar’s Public Works Authority; His Excellency Dr. Wahdan Al Qadi, CEO of the Saudi Investment Fund for Events; and Dr. Emmanuel Cerroni, Director General of HBC.

Achievements of Ashghal at HBC 2024:

  • Project Diamond Award: Ashghal’s Local Areas Infrastructure Programme (LAIP) was recognized for its transformative impact on infrastructure development in Qatar. The program delivered world-class roads, utility networks, pedestrian and cycling paths, and advanced safety features to residential areas, enhancing connectivity and urban quality of life. To date, the program has benefitted over 7,833 plots, with plans to expand to more than 33,000 plots, emphasizing sustainability through the use of recycled materials, reduced carbon emissions, and local sourcing.

  • Procurement Gold Award: Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department was celebrated for its exemplary procurement practices, integrating transparency, efficiency, and sustainability into its operations. The department’s initiatives, including the In-Country Value program, supported local suppliers and workforce development while maintaining high standards for safety and environmental sustainability. The adoption of value engineering resulted in significant cost savings and operational excellence.


Event Highlights:

The HBC 2024 Awards recognized 60 winners across 28 categories, representing over 5,000 assessment hours and 3,741 applications. With the global launch of the Intelligent Sustainable Excellence (ISE) Model and the introduction of the HBC Quality of Life Award, the event underscored a commitment to advancing standards that enhance societal well-being.
