New Website Honors The Lives Of Those Lost To COVID-19

The COVID 19 Memorial Project seeks to offer comfort to family and friends left behind by memorializing their loved ones

Fort Worth, Texas - Jul 2, 2020 - As the number of lives lost to the COVID pandemic grows daily, one group is looking to honor the memories of those lost to the virus with a new memorial website. The COVID 19 Memorial Project launched June 22. The memorial is encouraging people to submit the names of loved ones lost to the virus as a reminder to the world that behind each number in the death toll was a real, living person who was special, loved and is sorely missed.

The founder of the COVID 19 Memorial Project wanted to create a space to humanize a global tragedy and give friends and family the opportunity to mourn and remember their loved ones in a way that shows the collectivity and scale of the grief experienced by so many globally.

“We hope that this online memorial can play some small role in helping those left behind heal from the pain of losing a loved one from this immense tragedy,” said Kathleen McCullough. “While no global day of remembrance currently exists for those lost to the COVID pandemic, the COVID 19 Memorial Project was created to serve as an online space to fill that gap in our collective consciousness and help all of us grapple with this devastating loss of life and human potential across the globe.”

The team behind the COVID 19 Memorial Project is asking family and friends to submit the names of their loved ones on their site to honor their legacy. Each name is meticulously catalogued. Due to the volume and research involved, the large-scale project is estimated to take approximately two years. Eventually, people will be able to search by name, country or date via the site’s searchable database. The goal is to list as many names as possible of the over 508,000 lives lost (at time of press) to COVID-19.
