Charlotte, NC - June 30, 2020 - The tragic death of George Floyd has spurred people around the world to reflect on the wrongs and injustices experiences by minorities in America and abroad. For Yadi Alamin, a clinicians and practitioner of traditional Chinese Medicine based in Charlotte North Carolina, which was also the scene to violent uprising in 2016, the death of Floyd drove him to consider his own experience as a minority artist in America. The result of his reflection is the release of a powerful and emotionally expressive song called I Chose Love.
The song, which was launched in June, is inspired by Alamin’s own experiences. Lyrics recall emotional memories of friends who never returned home or who experienced a lack of opportunities and became addicted to drugs. The song combines a mellow R & B melody and chorus with powerful spoken word rap. The lyrics express a resolve that ‘this time will be different,’ alluding to the mounting popular protests in favor of reform.
"The killing of George Floyd shook my soul, and I wanted to encourage people of all races, colors, genders, and religions to take responsibility for keeping us alive,” explains Alamin. “Our well-being has to be our focus; we can no longer wait for leadership to take care of us. Let's show compassion for life because the cop who killed George Floyd showed none!”
Yadi Alamin's new song I Chose Love, and the accompanying 3 minutes and 22 second long music video, which overlays scene of the protests following Floyd’s death and the resulting demands for justice, is available at Alamin's popular YouTube channel. Alamin’s YouTube site, which is dedicated to providing health and wellness tips, was a fitting place to host his new song as it too is a call for improved wellbeing for minorities in America.
