Boosting the Game of Tennis through Quality Court Installations

It’s one of the oldest sports in the world but in Canada, tennis still has some way to go in the popularity stakes. But with the emergence of some new young talent and Tennis Canada’s backing for emerging young professionals, the potential is there for tennis to rival ice hockey as the sport of choice in Canada. And it seems to just be the issue of tennis court installation that is holding many Canadians back.

Why the right playing surface matters in tennis

A quality tennis court is fundamental to the game, as it enables the players to move freely around the court while also allowing the ball to be properly hit back and forth. Every player has their preference of surface, whether grass or clay, and it takes a professional tennis court installation to ensure this is replicated for non-professionals and allow the game to truly flourish at the amateur level.

Bringing professional tennis to the non-professional world is possible through the right kind of quality tennis court installation. Using over 40 years’ experience, Ontario’s CrowAll Surface Contractors specialize in this field and use their bespoke knowledge of all sports surfaces to ensure their tennis court installations are fit for purpose and also long-lasting – fit to endure the wear and tear of frenetic games of tennis.

With tennis court installations, experience counts

The CrowAll team consists of project manager and designer Rocco Cornacchia, president and construction foreman Mark Cornacchia and sales director Daniel Cornacchia. In particular Rocco was notably the first construction foreman to use laser-guided grading, where optimized grading beams work to create a customized level playing surface that is built to last for at least 25 years. Mark has also become a specialist in clay court, hard court and acrylic coating.

“With many decades of experience, our aim is to become an indispensable one-stop shop for customers,” says a spokesperson for CrowAll. “This means we go beyond just installing new playing surfaces or repairing and maintaining existing ones – we carry out the full landscape designing and planning, and supply sport accessories for putting greens, ice rinks and basketball courts. This service includes professional drainage systems, interlocking pathways, walls – whatever is needed.”

What exactly are tennis court surfaces made of?

CrowAll covers a wide range of clay surfaces in its tennis court installations, such as Har-tru red and green clay, and European clay. All these surfaces use ClayTech, which is a clay-based surface comprised of stone and/or brick – this ensures a mix of low maintenance and strong all-weather resistance. The CrowAll team can also install artificial grass and turf, which means less maintenance compared to real grass and a greater endurance of hardware and use.

Replicating the hard court experience is also possible through CrowAll’s use of an asphalt penetration surface, which works by taking layers of stone and sand and spraying them with liquid asphalt. This type of surface recreates the hard court experience but adds a soft asphalt composition, which provides protection against injuries from falls.
