ROKR Vitascope is the third generation, vintage style film projector that is built like a 3D wooden puzzle with 172 pcs of laser cut wood parts, a hand crank generator, a film, and other components. What makes it stand apart is that it uses no battery and can be powered by rotating the projector handle, to play the film on a flat surface. It is a unique, beautiful and artistic piece of item, recently launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter with a goal of $20,000. The backers from around the globe have given a great response to the product and pre-ordered the same, at a super early bird, discounted price. Vitascope takes the user back to the simpler times, with its vintage appeal and the frame by frame movie display. This is a piece of art that makes it perfect for gifting or adding to the personal collection.
Talking about the Vitascope projector, The ROKR designer says, “When I was a child, I often worried about not having a battery at hand for electric toys. As growing up, I‘ve learned about waste battery recycling and environmental pollution problems. Therefore, I always wanted to make an electric toy that didn't need a battery." The project owners have gone through two generations of creating prototypes of the product and making improvements to come up with the third generation Vitascope, that features a brand new, stable and durable design. While the first prototype had no base with poor stability, the second prototype had a door with a steam-punk style to represent a rough retro projector.
For the third generation model, the designers have tested a lot of motors and bulbs for display to choose the best performing and durable one. This projector will provide the joy of assembling 172 pcs of the wooden puzzle, into a fully functioning vintage style projector. The users will get a feeling of accomplishment after building something from scratch, piece by piece into a beautiful projector that reminds of the simpler times. After they have built the projector, all they need to do is to rotate the crank, listen to the motor sound and see how the motor and hand generator works. The projector then will play a black and white film on the screen or flat surface in front of it.
The users will need 5-8 hours of continuous work to complete the assembling of the projector. They can involve friends and family members for a great time together. The product also worked well for the children with ADHD and they showed positive feedback for the same. The backers have the chance to order the ROKR Vitascope at an early bird price of $29, through one of the rewards on Kickstarter.
