MONTGOMERY ELEMENTARY EAGLES ARE SOARING, THANKS TO ARTS PARTNERS

Named after an American inventor, physicist, and engineer, John J. Montgomery Elementary School in Chula Vista, California is leaning on its namesake to make strides to the future. John J. Montgomery played a large role in early flight and airplane inventions and experiments, and the Montgomery Elementary Eagles are proving to be innovators themselves by transforming their campus into an oversized yearbook.

The school temporarily used building exteriors as the backdrop for giant-sized portraits of nearly 100 students and staff who participated in the project. The black and white photos made a bold statement to anyone who walked onto the Montgomery Elementary School campus: every individual matters!

The art collection was inspired by the Inside Out Project, a global art project that encourages people to turn their personal stories and identity into works of arts, and by Turnaround Arts: California, a program that promotes social and educational change through art. Principal Monica Ruiz of Montgomery Elementary says that opportunities like this provide students a way to make a mark on their community and beyond.

John J. Montgomery Elementary is a part of the Chula Vista Elementary School District and is committed to providing a safe and friendly atmosphere at school that fosters positivity and self-worth for every student. The staff at Montgomery is committed to helping students be ready for college and careers in the 21st century with the help of parents, families, and the community.
