All 30 teams of Major League Baseball signed the law confirmation to extend the netting at their respective ballparks this year in 2018. This netting trait aims to protect the fans sitting in the field level seats from flying foul balls or broken bats.
"Providing baseball fans with a variety of seating options when they come to the ballpark, including seats behind protective netting, is important", Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Major League Clubs are constantly evaluating the coverage and design of their ballpark netting and I am pleased that they are providing fans an increased inventory of protected seats".
In recent years, it has been a key safety issue to reset the net boundaries to avoid injuries. Back in 2016, the league had officially recommended extending the netting after realizing many injuries happening. Like in 2015 an accident in Fenway Park in Boston injured several with the shards of a broken bat that flew back in the crowd.
This time in September a young girl was struck by a 105-mph foul ball at Yankee Stadium. 2016’s recommendation couldn’t be followed to which Manfred said that it couldn’t be implemented due to the design variations that needed to be done in 30 ballparks.
Last week, during the Major League Baseball owners’ meeting, the commissioner’s office issued a fixed law outlining its new netting policy - http://besthittingnets.com/best-baseball-nets/ sports hitting nets may be surveyed here. Coming back to, Explaining that he did not aim to rob fans of the unparalleled immediacy and access to our players, Commissioner Rob Manfred also said that it was important “that fans have the option of sitting behind protective netting” in those areas of the ballpark while enjoying the match.
Under the new policy, teams are “encouraged” to outspread the netting behind home plate a mere 70 feet or so down the foul lines. Note that this is not an obligation but merely a recommendation. It also calls on teams to “explore ways to inform their fans” on the fundamental dangers of sitting close to the action and the importance of attentiveness. And it was recommended make clear to the fans which seats are safe when they are buying tickets by the ticket vendors.
