The Pageant of the Masters Venue is outdoor amphitheater, with a professional orchestra, original score, live narration, colorful sets, sophisticated lighting, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers who put on the show. The first performance was in 1932.when the United States and the world were struggling from the Great Depression. Artists arriving in Laguna Beach were inspired by the coastline, the beautiful hills and the freedom to follow their artistic dreams. A group of those artists banded together to find a way to raise spirits and sell some of their art.
The venue was called: Irvine Bowl, which is in the city of Laguna Beach, CA. The venue has a capacity of approximately 2,600 and was built in the 1940s. The Bowl is named in honor of James Irvine who donated the property in the Laguna Canyon to use for the Pageant of the Masters. Pageant tickets entitle you tofree, unlimited admission to the Festival of Arts grounds all summer long. The theme in 2018 is: Under the Sun. The show is highly recommended to see at least once; it is a one of a kind show.
The Pageant is put on by a few dozen staff and several hundred volunteers. Production begins in January with auditions and casting of volunteers from all over the state. 62,000 volunteer hours to put on the two-month Pageant in July and August. The costumes and makeup involved are very extravagent and often require dozens of hours of work.
