William Jones, the founder of Afrofuturism Network, will be hosting a panel discussion at the first ever BlerdCon this summer in Washington, DC.
The panel is titled “The Future of Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Fiction.”
Panel host William Jones says: “There has been a continuous and growing movement within the black creative community which has been coined, ‘Afrofuturism.’ This creative movement has expanded into various mediums such as film, television, comic books, literature and music. But now the question is, where do we go from here?”
The purpose of this panel will be to discuss the meaning of Afrofuturism, its necessity, and its future. Panelists will deal with the social, political, and economic impact of Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Fiction. Panelists will discuss the rewards and challenges of being a creative person in the fields of Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Fiction.
Attendees will also gain insight into the creative process and learn how to get started in the business of writing and comic book production.
The panel will take place at BlerdCon, a first-of-its-kind convention that focuses on inclusivity and centers the narratives of black people in “nerd” and “geek” spaces. BlerdCon, a weekend-long event, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport, located at 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway in Arlington, VA. William’s panel will be held on Friday, June 30th at 6:3o PM.
