Manufacturing Journalist, TR Cutler, corroborated research by Industrial Reports, Inc. which shows combined U.S. and Canadian planned capital spending jumped 20 percent in May compared to April. May spending for the two nations totaled $61.78 billion compared to April’s $51.27 billion. The research organization reported 310 planned U.S. and Canadian projects in May. Planned U.S. project spending showed a small improvement in May with $40.89 billion in planned investment compared to the April total of $36.24 billion. Canadian planned investment improved to $20.06 billion in May from $15.03 billion in April. Projects in both nations ranged in value from $500,000 to $10 billion.
Process projects led U.S. spending with $19.24 billion in planned investment, followed by power and energy projects with $12.99 billion. Manufacturing projects reported $5.87 billion in planned U.S. spending. In Canada, process projects led all markets with $20.06 billion in planned spending, while power and energy projects accounted for $551 million, and manufacturing showed $132 million. Texas led the U.S. with $13.04 billion in planned investment, followed by Kentucky with $2.27 billion, and Kansas with $2 billion. Alberta was the Canadian spending leader with $14.89 billion in planned project investment for the month, followed by Québec with $3.72 billion and British Columbia with $1.28 billion.

- Indiana: $80 Million Auto Components Plant, Starting Design
- Mississippi: $400 Million Tissue Mill Expansion, Planning Phase
- Pennsylvania: $50 Million Grocery Products Distribution Center, Planning Phase
