Kuester Management Group Advises Homebuyers on What to Ask the Seller

Before moving into a new home, buyers should ask sellers some key questions. Kuester Management Group lists a few of them.

Moving into a new home almost always brings some surprises—and those surprises can be either good or bad. Of course, homebuyers can minimize those surprises by communicating clearly with the seller. There are several important questions to ask before moving into any new house, and in a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group lists some of the most critical ones.

“Of course, we’d always recommend asking questions about the HOA governance that’s in place,” comments Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. “Ask about dues and assessments, and also about the ongoing activity of the HOA. Get a feel for what it does to serve the community—and, in turn, what you might do to serve the HOA.”

It is also advisable to ask questions about the home itself. “Ask about any funny quirks the house might have—like hidden light switches or doorknobs that stick,” Kuester suggests. “These are the little things that a home inspector might not tell you about.”

Homeowners also need to be aware of the locations of the sump pump, water shut-off valve, and circuit breaker box. “You can probably determine these things from your home inspection, but if not, don’t hesitate to ask the seller,” Kuester advises.

Recommendations for local vendors can also come in handy. “It never hurts to ask about good local Internet or phone companies, or pest control companies that do good work,” says Kuester. “This is especially helpful if you’re new in town.”

Finally, Kuester says buyers should ask questions about the neighborhood. “In addition to inquiring about the HOA, you might also ask questions about life on your street or your block,” he affirms. “Plus, knowing about things like garbage pick-up times can be useful.”

The bottom line, according to Kuester? “Communication really does go a long way, and once you’ve signed on a house, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to reach out to the seller and learn more about your new home.”
