France dominates in the global beef trade. In 2014, France exported 169 thousand tonnes of beef totaling 949 million USD, 10% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Italy, where it supplied 53% of its total beef exports in value terms, accounting for 29% of Italy's total imports.
Overall, the global beef trade reached 6,926 million USD, with a CAGR of 2% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed mixed dynamics, rising from 1,337 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 1,435 thousand tonnes in 2014.
In 2014, Italy (25%), the Netherlands (14%), Germany (9%), France (8%) and Greece (5%) were the leading destinations of beef imports, together making up 61% of global imports. The share of the Netherlands increased (+5 percentage points), while the share of Italy illustrated negative dynamics (-9 percentage points).
The Netherlands and Germany were among other main global suppliers of beef in 2014 with a combined share of 25% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Belarus (+36% per year) and Mexico (+25% per year). Belarus strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 1% in 2007 to 6% in 2014.
