Grand Rapids, MI - The West Michigan chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) recently hosted a Kitchen and Bath Industry Show event at the picturesque Venue 3 Two on May 29. This event provided a unique opportunity for designers, both seasoned and emerging, to engage with over 18 vendors and explore the latest trends and innovations in the industry.
Andy Yates, award-winning interior designer based in Michigan and Chicago, took on the role of moderator for a panel discussion aimed at maximizing the KBIS experience. Yates, known for his lauded expertise and commitment to the field of kitchen and bath renovation and design, guided the conversation, ensuring a comprehensive and insightful discussion.
The panel featured a mix of industry veterans and newcomers, including Samantha Williams from Ferguson Showrooms and Lindsey Kolenda of Knox J Design, both first-time attendees at KBIS 2024. Joining them were Becky Vandenbroek from Hyggee Custom Build and Ryan Morris, Director of Residential A&D at Cambria, both of whom have extensive experience with the show. Together, they offered a well-rounded perspective on the trends observed at KBIS, and how these insights could be applied to those interested in attending the event in the future.
Panelists shared practical advice for navigating the expansive show, emphasizing the importance of preparation. “Wear comfortable shoes, pack snacks, and plan ahead,” was the collective mantra, highlighting the event’s vastness and the need for strategic planning. The discussion also touched on emerging trends and innovative concepts, providing valuable takeaways for attendees.
“It was an honor (and fun) to moderate this panel of talented industry leaders,” Yates says. “Recounting their experience at KBIS, and imparting that wisdom to the attendees of the event, was informative and insightful. I am grateful to have been asked to participate by the West Michigan NKBA team.”
The event’s format allowed for meaningful interactions between attendees and vendors, covering a wide range of products and services, from appliances to plumbing, paint, and lighting. Participants collected vendor stamps on their “passports,” with a raffle for a grand prize of a gift basket featuring local Grand Rapids goodies and a gift card to the Amway Grand Hotel downtown.
KBIS, the premier annual event for the kitchen and bath industry, draws professionals from across the globe to explore the latest products, technologies, and design trends. While the scale of KBIS can be overwhelming, the NKBA West Michigan event offered a more intimate setting for networking and learning, making it accessible and beneficial for all attendees.
Andy Yates’ role in the event underscores his ongoing dedication to the industry, fostering education and collaboration among peers. His leadership in the discussion provided valuable insights, helping attendees make the most of their KBIS experiences and stay ahead in a dynamic industry. As a trusted leader in the field of interior design, Yates is highly sought after for his abilities to engage and delight audiences in person and on podcasts, social media and other outlets.
