Director Ate de Jong’s indie musical “Heart Strings” is set to have its Los Angeles premiere on June 30, 2024 at 7 PM at the prestigious American Cinematheque’s Los Feliz Theater. The film was co-written by Ate de Jong and Steven Gaydos, Variety Executive VP of Global Content, who is also a co-producer.
“Heart Strings” is a romantic drama that follows two spurious lovebirds Lucky (Sam Varga) and Billie (Maggie Koerner) who lie their way to stardom on a music competition television show. However, as the two grow closer, they sacrifice all their success for true love for each other and the music they create.
The film’s score was written and produced by world renowned composer/songwriter Randy Edelman (Gettysburg, Last of the Mohicans, Kindergarten Cop, Dragonheart). “Heart Strings” theme song is performed by the country music group The Bellamy Brothers.
The indie musical first premiered in March at the Fantasporto Film Festival in Porto Portugal before holding a screening at the Miami Film Festival this past April. The film was screened as a special presentation by the Carmel Film Festival in Carmel by the Sea early in June.
Dutch director Ate de Jong studied at the Film Academy of Amsterdam and directed feature films in The Netherlands before he relocated to Hollywood where he directed episodes of Miami Vice. Other films to his credit include: “Highway to Hell”, “All Men are Mortal”, “Fogbound”, “Deadly Virtues”, “Love is Thicker Than Water” and “Drop Dead Fred” (also scored by Edelman). Co-writer Steven Gaydos directs the planning and production of almost 250 Focus editorial feature sections for Variety. He has co-written or written screenplays including: “All Men are Mortal”, “Iguana”, and “Road to Nowhere.”
Gaydos, Varga, Koerner and actor Jonathan De Azevedo well introduced to Film in person prior to the screening…
