Amphitheater High School wants to see all of its students succeed after high school. In order to fulfill this goal, they dedicate one school day to help seniors create a general outline of their college plan. Amphitheater High School does the process in-house, in order to ensure students are given plenty of time and support to complete them. Most seniors are first generation college students with disrupted family lives, so this day is important in ensuring students complete their college readiness steps.
The Pima Application Initiative was done to make sure all seniors had their college application step completed. This provides students an option for after they graduate, and it eliminates the hope that they’ll do it on their own. Through this initiative, students are guaranteed to apply to at least one college.
This initiative also allows Amphitheater High School to piece together grants and scholarship money through FAFSA. 85% of students qualify for some form of FAFSA support, and that will usually cover the cost of Pima Community College. Amphitheater High School’s minimum goal, is that every student gets accepted to Pima, and that they have money through FAFSA to cover it.
ABOUT AMPHITHEATER PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Amphitheater schools and facilities are places where students thrive academically; places parents want their children to go; places where highly skilled people work; and places community members respect because of the high student achievement, caring environment, and focus on individual needs. Amphi students excel academically because students are taught by highly qualified staff, including the Air Force Association Arizona STEM Teacher of the Year, 39 nationally board certified teachers, Finalist for Outstanding High School Faculty Award, Arizona Earth Science Teacher of the Year, and more. Amphi students compete at the highest levels both athletically and academically, such as the Academic Decathlon 2018 State Champions (5th consecutive year), AZ Central Unified Athlete of the Year, 55 Southern Arizona Science and Engineering Fair winners, and state winners of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Amphi also offers tremendous programs for all students, meeting them where they currently are and helping them achieve their highest possible success.
