Is There Hope for Authors Who Want to Sell More Books?

New study shows the average U.S. book is now selling less than 250 copies per year and less than 3,000 copies over its lifetime.

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - May. 01, 2017 - The sheer number of books published has increased to 1,000,000 or more per year while sales remain stagnant. Publishers and authors have started asking the important question, “What can I do to sell more books?”

The Author’s Adventure Summit answers that question, as 28 publishing legends reveal their strategies for launching a book to bestseller. This free online event starts May 8 and runs through May 19, 2017. Both new and previously published authors will learn new strategies for selling books from industry experts, representing decades of publishing experience.

The speaker lineup includes such experts as: Laila Ali, Penny Sansevieri, Joel Friedlander, Dr. Judith Briles, Robin Cutler, Ellie McLove, Eric Van Der Hope, Jill Celeste, Derek Murphy, Alinka Rutkowska, Sharon Hamilton, Tamara Dever, Elena Rahrig, Tenita Johnson, Valerie Gangas, Kristin Steele, Dan Verdick, Steven Spatz, Tamara Monosoff, Lori Hardegree, Amanda Young, Nina Amir, Shari Stauch, Jen Levitz, Kiki Chatfield, Kim Grabas, Rocky Callen, Randy Peyser, and Lisa DeSpain.

Although readers love their books, they express dissatisfaction with recent tendencies to rush to press and ignore important quality issues.Experts in book design, editing, product development and content interactivity explain how a great product and excellent packaging contributes to a book’s success. Book marketing experts explain how to build an author platform quickly, and how to streamline the book release process to minimize overwhelm.

The study also revealed:

According to the latest Bowker Report (September 7, 2016), more than 700,000 books were self-published in the U.S. in 2015, which is an incredible increase of 375% since 2010.

Most books today are selling only to the authors’ and publishers’ communities.

Most book marketing today is done by authors, not by publishers.

Publishing is one of the only industries where returns are allowed and expected.

The Authors Guild blames a decline in writers' income on a combination of factors: online piracy of digital material, consolidation within the publishing industry, the dominance of Amazon and the rise of self-publishing which has cut into the market for traditional publishers.

Given the current publishing climate, it’s more important than ever that authors find and cultivate their own readers. The Author’s Adventure Summit puts authors back in control by giving them tools they can use immediately to make more sales and build their reader base, impacting more people.
